Wintersingen belongs to the Sissach district in the upper part of the canton of Baselland and lies between 370 and 720 meters above sea level (lowest point: municipality and canton boundary at Iglingerhof; highest point: Chienberg; church 450 m above sea level) 695 hectares of which: 425 hectares of cultivated land (7.6 hectares of which are vines), 237 hectares of forest and 31 hectares of built-up area. Compared to the surrounding communities, the village has remained quite rural in character. The village image in the core zone reflects its history as a farming village, which in 1996 celebrated the eighth anniversary of its first documentary mention. The farming village, which has grown in the Alemannic settlement style, with residential and ecological buildings lying together has still been preserved in its purest form. In the course of the fields regulation (1974-1999), all farms were relocated from the village center as an adjustment to more modern forms of farming. Less productive, but scenic areas such as hedges, brook banks and forest edges were transferred to the public sector as part of the field regulation in order to maintain the fauna and flora worthy of protection and to preserve our descendants. Wintersingen is the largest forest owner; together with private forest owners, it provides the village with the need for firewood.
