The Yverdon and Region Museum is one of the oldest museums in the canton of Vaud, as it was founded in the second half of the 18th century. One of the most famous Vaudois intellectuals of the 18th century, the Yverdon priest and geologist Elie Bertrand (1713-1797), handed some of his minerals and fossils over to the Yverdon Chamber of Commerce in 1764. He wanted to make a contribution to the general education of his fellow citizens. After Bertrand's death, his entire natural history collection was transferred to the Chamber of Commerce, which had meanwhile become a literary association.
