My name is Dennis Hausammann. I am one of the founders of iGroove. It's nice to see how the iGroove family is growing every day and I would like to thank you for your trust in our company. When I started making music a good 10 years ago, everything was very exciting and new. We tinkered with new songs almost every day in our rehearsal room and tried to somehow record them. The quality of our recordings was really bad, which wouldn't have disturbed our enjoyment of the music. After about two years we had our first self-produced mini album, a few hundred of which we burned on CD and sold on the street. It was a great time and we actually sold a lot of discs. Now we wanted to make music more professionally and have invested the money from the CD sales in new equipment for the studio. About a year later the band broke up. So I tried to produce a CD myself. After almost six months the work was completed and I was looking for a label that would bring the CD into stores for me. It wasn't a problem to find such a label, but the costs and margins were so high that I didn't really have anything left from the sales. The label did nothing more than deliver my CD to the dealers upon request. I hadn't imagined it that way. Together with friends we decided to found our own label, including distribution. After a few months we were able to conclude direct contracts with bookplates and all other important trading partners and were ready for business. However, the fixed costs for the maintenance of the systems (Phononet), which were demanded by the trading partners, as well as the payment from the shops, were so minimal that we had to terminate all contracts again after about a year. Then I tried to only publish the next album digitally. This was also associated with costs and the payout per song sold on iTunes for CHF 1.60 was just under 50 cents. I found this situation very unfair, as I had produced the entire album myself and the shops did nothing other than put the music online. You have to upload it yourself and for the one click to put it online, do you keep around 50% of the income for yourself? So I decided to take a break from the music and searched intensively for a solution to counter these problems. I spent over a year and a half developing and realizing a concept for a fair trade music trade in order to offer artists without financial means the opportunity to sell their works independently and to receive a fair share of it. This is how iGroove was born.
