The purpose of the company Hans Buss Stiftung in Basel is as follows. The purpose of the foundation is to promote research groups from the fields of medical microbiology and biochemistry. Should one or both of these areas be canceled for any reason, the purpose of the foundation instead of the canceled areas is primarily the promotion of medical and chemical research at the University of Basel, insofar as it deals with problems that are related to the above mentioned areas. Should the situation of one or the other, or both, areas improve at a later point in time through other legacies and donations, or through donations from industry, so that either the majority of the Board of Trustees comes to the opinion that support from the Foundation's funds is no longer possible necessary, or that the representatives of the two areas would renounce it of their own accord, the astronomical, meteorological and botanical institutes take the place of the two areas mentioned. The latter would have to use the funds to enlarge the greenhouses of the botanical garden and to equip them and the botanical garden more abundantly. If, in later years, these two organizational units are also closed for any reason, or if support from the foundation is no longer required, the proceeds of the foundation go to the Voluntary Academic Society in Basel. This would then have to use the funds in the sense of their first appeal from 1835, especially in the cases in which it is a question of excellent and deserving persons active in the field of medicine and natural sciences, their effectiveness for our scientific institutions and would be highly beneficial for our hometown in general, to distinguish or preserve it by making it possible for the authorities to guarantee them salaries that are not provided for in the law without further nuisance to the state. The foundation supports the research in the sense that the scientific work can be carried out free of all church and political influence. The foundation must not provide any reason for state benefits to the institutions and people in question to be cut in any way.
