Undervelier is a municipality in the Delémont district in the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Unterschwiler is no longer used today. Undervelier lies at 536 m above sea level. M., 12 km southwest of the canton capital Delémont (linear distance). The former street line village extends on both sides of the Sorne in a valley widening between two gorges through the chains of the Jura. In 599, an ironworks was founded north of the village by the Basel prince-bishop JC Blarer von Wartensee. After 1880 the iron mining stopped, the former iron works and houses from the 17th and 18th centuries are still preserved. Today there are only a few jobs outside of the agricultural sector in the village. Many workers (more than 50%) are therefore commuters and work mainly in the Delémont region.
