Dicki used to include the hamlets Kriechenwil, Schönenbühl and Riesenau as well as the areas Neumatt, Waldegg, Dönishaus, Süderen and Röseli. The community name was almost only used in official communication; the post office was always called "Kriechenwil" and the stop of the Sensetalbahn was also called "Saanebrücke-Kriechenwil". So the name of the community gave rise to misunderstandings again and again; some people looked for Dicki in vain, since no district and no house, but only part of the agricultural corridor, bore this name. On December 13, 1958, the community assembly discussed a name change for the first time. When it became clear that the matter would not cause any significant costs, the municipal assembly on March 12, 1959 decided to change the name from "Dicki" to "Kriechenwil". The name change was forwarded to the Federal Council on April 3, 1959 by the government council of the canton of Bern with a positive proposal. The change of the parish name was approved on April 16, 1959.
