On January 4th, 1991 the Cooperative Cellar Theater Katakömbli was founded. Eight (now nine) theater enthusiasts opened the doors of a theater that had been gently renovated in October 1991 and presented the full program of the first season to the audience. We are now nineteen game seasons behind us. The enthusiasm has remained and the many positive reactions from artists and audience have rewarded us. The "Katakömbli" is our hobby, is not run for profit and is not subsidized. We cooperative members do the “work” with many helpers from our circle of friends. During one season, the theater had to be almost completely shut down for financial reasons. But the cooperative continued to fight. Thanks to the support of the landlord and many patrons, the theater could easily be redesigned and adapted to today's needs of artists and audiences.
