Camille Graeser was born in Carouge near Geneva on February 27, 1892. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter, Graeser entered the furniture and interior design class at the Royal School of Applied Arts in Stuttgart in 1911, where he became a master student of Bernhard Pankok in 1913. In his free time he paints and draws in a highly abstract way, influenced by Cubism and Fauvism. In 1917 he opens a studio for interior design, advertising graphics and product design in Stuttgart, whose reputation in the city is growing steadily. From 1950 onwards, Graeser, along with Bill, Loewensberg and Lohse, was one of the most important representatives of concrete art in Switzerland. In 1964 he received his first museum exhibition at the Kunsthaus Zürich; The first book about him was published in 1968, in 1969 he was able to take part in the Biennale in Sao Paulo and in 1977 in the Documenta in Kassel. In 1975 the city of Zurich awarded him its art prize. Graeser died on February 21, 1980 in Wald (ZH) after a long illness.
