The Dorfspatzen Oberägeri were founded in 1971 and celebrated their 40th anniversary in April 2011 with the inauguration of a new uniform and the christening of the anniversary CD 40 Years of Dorfspatzen Oberägeri. In 1973 the legendary Jakob Farner was the first conductor to be hired. He shaped the brass band for 15 years and was replaced in 1988 by Ivo Huonder. It is thanks to these two personalities that the village sparrows have achieved a very high level of awareness at home and abroad and have been able to participate in numerous television and radio broadcasts. From 2003 to April 2011 Marco Müller was the musical director. From May 2011 Markus Steimen will lead the formation. At the Swiss brass band meeting in 2012, the formation under the direction of the new conductor immediately reached 2nd place. The Dorfspatzen Oberägeri have always been placed among the best three brass bands in Switzerland in the last five competitions. Different sound carriers show the diverse repertoire of the village sparrows, which ranges from traditional Bohemian and Moravian brass music to hit melodies and current pop songs. The approx. 45-minute musical non-stop program, which is enriched by show and stage effects, is unique in the Swiss brass band landscape. The formation consists of a conductor, 15 wind players, a singer, a drummer, a small team for setting up the stage and a sound engineer. The latter ensures that the typical Dorfspatzen sound reaches the listener's ears in a balanced way. The marching band has wireless microphones, which enable optimal mobility during shows on stage. The Dorfspatzen Oberägeri record around 10-15 appearances every year. The performances take place in the context of company and club events, public concerts, radio and television broadcasts, personal celebrations and events of all kinds. The musicians usually meet once a week for rehearsals. With regard to entering competitions, additional samples are not uncommon. The proven success factors of versatility, quality, camaraderie and openness to new things also form the foundation for the continued successful continuation of the formation under the direction of Markus Steimen. The Dorfspatzen Oberägeri are recommended as a versatile entertainment brass band for gala concerts, entertainment evenings, musical performances as part of company and club events, public events, personal celebrations and other events.
